Welcome to the
2022 Montessori MENA Summit Archives

Opening Address

Carlotta Ehrenzeller of Cambridge Peace Education Research Group opens our historic summit by laying the foundations towards a common understanding of key challenges in education today, and explores ways in which we can reimagine modern-day schooling to support children leading the way towards social and societal change.

The Expert Panel

The Expert Panel, moderated by Mahmoud Natout, will present a general overview of what the Montessori approach has to offer throughout the stages of development, as well as certain characteristics of Montessori environments that foster personal and social growth. Our distinguished panelists represent a variety of Montessori experiences in international contexts: Coral Ruiz for the 3-6 stage, Alison Awes for the 6-12 stage, and Lesley Ann Patrick for the 12-18 stage.

Active Break

During this 20 minute session, Anne from the Montessori Sports team will guide you through a mild movement session. Montessori Sports teaches how to embed sports in the Montessori environment, and believes movement is an essential part to live a healthy, happy life with free choices. After having enjoyed the first part of the summit, we will do some strengthening, balancing and stretching exercises that can all be done standing. No need to change into sports clothes. We’ll give you a little energy boost!

EsF Panel

The aim of this second panel, moderated by Educateurs sans Frontières (EsF) Coordinator Elske Voermans, is to give a practical illustration of what is said in the first panel. Panelists from South Africa (Jasmine Jacob), Romania (Mariana Ulita), Mexico (Teanny Hurtado), and the United States (Kathleen Guinan) will share the details of their ongoing Montessori-rooted community projects; the contexts, the direct observable consequences on the children's behaviour and growth, and the effects that the projects have had on the community at large.
